The sun is setting by five, there’s a crispness in the air, and the holidays are just around the corner—although, if we’re being honest, the holiday season basically began a month ago when editors started rolling out their gift guides. We’re entering a time of family gatherings, generosity, introspection, and reflection. As we move into this often-hectic stretch, it’s important to gently prepare ourselves so we can stay centered and grounded.
1. Set boundaries.
While it’s wonderful to show up for others—to volunteer, host, or lend a hand—ask yourself if you’re giving more than you have to spare. Honor your bandwidth and allow yourself to say “no” without guilt.
2. Let go.
Seeing old family members can sometimes reopen emotional wounds. One of the most healing things you can do is acknowledge the feeling, release it, and let it pass without holding on.
3. Get outside.
If you live in a cold-weather climate, this may feel easier said than done, but daily sunlight—preferably in the morning without sunglasses—helps regulate your circadian rhythm. When the receptors in your eyes absorb natural light, it boosts healthy cortisol, improves energy, and supports optimal melatonin production for deeper sleep.
4. Schedule time for yourself.
You don’t need to book an elaborate spa day. Even a simple wind-down before bed can help recalibrate your nervous system. We filmed a night routine—fresh pajamas, a gentle skincare ritual, and a feel-good movie—that you can watch here.

5. Stay present.
The holidays often pull us into nostalgia or anticipation. Try to anchor yourself in the moment instead—notice the scent of dinner cooking, the glow of candlelight, or the quiet of early evenings. Remember that every cherished memory was once an ordinary moment in real time.
6. Simplify where you can.
Not every tradition or expectation needs to be upheld. Give yourself permission to streamline your schedule, gift-giving, or hosting plans. Less can truly feel like more.
Here’s to finding calm in the ordinary, and making space for ourselves this season.
