There’s something special about the mother-daughter connection. Something about having a piece of your beating heart exist outside of yourself. It’s deep, intense, and always-changing.
It transcends language.
When we faced the hardship of my (Micaela) deteriorating health, our relationship formed an even stronger bond than we could have imagined. My mother made it her mission to create natural and gentle skincare treatments that worked for my chronic skin issues. When we decided to share our skincare with the world, My July was born.
My July combines two of the most powerful forces in the world: the mother-daughter connection and our intrinsic tie to the earth.
This Mother’s Day, we invited a few mothers and daughters in our community to share the best self-care tip their mother taught them, or one they hope to pass on to their daughters. From nightly baths and moisturizing rituals to kindness, patience, and learning to care for ourselves gently, these are the small lessons that stay with us for a lifetime.

Rebecca & Robin
Rebecca: Always, always, always remove your makeup before bed.
Robin: The importance of moisturizing! My mom was always creaming up, and now I’m the same way. Also, both my mother and my grandmother taught me that a cold Coca-Cola can fix headaches, stomach aches, anything.
(It’s true—try it the next time you’re in a pinch.)

Goldie & Megan
Goldie: A smoothie a day! I love strawberries, so my mom always adds them in. She says they’re full of vitamin C.
Megan: My favorite beauty tip that was passed down to me from my mother is also something I endeavor to instill in my girl:
Beauty starts from within. Always be kind.

Summer & Leslie
Summer: No hot tools for hair. When I was in high school, my mother hid my hair straightener, my curling iron, and my blow-dryer. Ever since then, I figured out how to get my natural waves to cooperate without heat and I’ve never looked back.
Leslie: My mom being a dancer would soak her body in hot baths after hours of dancing. It’s also when my sisters and I got her full and undivided attention, so we were all in the bathroom together talking. Hot baths not only help the body and muscles relax, they calm you down emotionally and relieve stress.

Nina & Jessica
Jessica: A value I try to instill in my daughter, Nina, is the idea that “less is more.”
I want her to feel a sense of pride in taking care of her skin, but I also want her to know that her true beauty comes from within. It’s the way she treats people, the way she shows up for herself and for her loved ones, the way she cares for the planet and her surroundings.
That’s where her true beauty lies.

Dawn & Micaela
Dawn: Talk to yourself the way you would talk to a dear friend. Words have the power to transform your life.
Micaela: Take everything a step at a time. Cross the bridge if and when you come to it. There is no use in making a down payment on a worry.
At My July, motherhood is woven into everything we do. What began as a mother searching for gentle skincare solutions for her daughter grew into something much bigger: a brand rooted in care, connection, and living in harmony with ourselves and the earth.
We hope these reflections inspire you to slow down, care for yourself tenderly, and hold close the wisdom passed down through generations.
In harmony with nature,
Micaela & Dawn
