Moisturizing does more than soften the skin. It helps strengthen the skin barrier, protecting it from everyday stressors like pollution, UV rays, and blue light. Consistent hydration supports a balanced complexion, soothes inflammation, and can even help prevent breakouts. But when it comes to choosing between a body butter and a body oil, which is right for you?

The truth is, neither body butter nor body oil is inherently better. They simply serve different purposes. A body butter offers rich, occlusive hydration  ideal for severely dry skin, while a body oil delivers lighter moisture and a healthy glow. The best choice depends on your skin’s needs and the results you wish to achieve.

Choose a body butter if:
1. You have very dry, rough, or cracked skin. A thick, butter-based formula (we use nourishing shea butter) provides deep moisture and creates a protective barrier, especially helpful for elbows, knees, and heels.
2. You need long-lasting, intensive hydration. Body butter is perfect for overnight moisture repair or during harsh, dry weather.

Choose a body oil if:
1. You have normal to oily skin. Body oil hydrates without feeling heavy or clogging pores.
2. You’re looking for a natural glow and improved elasticity. Oils leave skin silky, luminous, and supple.

For maximum hydration:
Apply body oil to damp skin first to replenish moisture, then follow with a body butter to seal it in and prevent water loss. This layering method is especially beneficial during the colder winter months.

Your routine might look like this:
1. Shower or bathe.
2. Apply Imaginary Picnic Body Oil to slightly damp skin and Gold Mine Face Oil to face.
3. Layer Serenity Now or Basic Body Butter to lock in moisture.
4. Finish with Therapy Healing Balm on extra dry or cracked areas as a targeted treatment.

Ultimately, it comes down to how your skin feels, the texture you prefer, and what your body needs in the moment. Our recommendation? Keep both on hand, so you can choose intuitively, day by day.
